Gothic, brilliantly macabre, quirky and playful - a 50 minute dance, movement theatre work with film & projections.

Fragments of Poe is part of Dora Frankel Ensemble’s journey towards an ambitious full scale, full length dance theatre performance, The Poe Saga. The Poe Saga explores a number of Edgar Allan Poe’s greatest and most disturbing tales from The Cask of Amontillado to The Descent into the Maelstrom. Poe tells us about ourselves. ‘The seeds of our own destruction lie within us’.

 

Framed by the quirky & queer visual aesthetic of artist Aubrey Beardsley, Fragments of Poe takes the audience on a journey through suggestive, compelling, macabre and even poetic scenes and vignettes that encompass personal and environmental anxiety and fears. Created with a gender-neutral contemporary gaze, it invites us into an ambiguous world of beauty and pain.

This small scale, site responsive, immersive performance is specially created for unusual settings, community spaces, schools, colleges, arts venues, fringe festivals, catacombs(!) and even book club and queer gatherings. It is part of our long term commitment to Building the Poe Community, a community that embraces queer &  those interested in music, media, fashion and we are thrilled to premiere it at Durham and Newcastle Fringe Festivals.
